About Us
The family behind Wilderstill and our love of the great outdoors.

Fairy Glen, Stonethwaite — one of our favourite family walks
Our Story
Wilderstill started as a simple idea on a rainy afternoon after a family walk in the Lake District. We'd spent the morning scrambling along a waterfall trail, phones in hand, trying to follow a route we'd pieced together from half a dozen blog posts and a blurry screenshot of a map. There had to be a better way.
We're a family who love nothing more than pulling on our boots and heading out to find the wildest, most untouched places in Britain — hidden waterfalls tucked into rocky gorges, turquoise lagoons you'd never know existed, remote lakes surrounded by nothing but fell and sky, and rivers that carve through ancient woodland far from any road.
Walking has always been our way of slowing down, spending time together, and discovering places that feel completely free from the everyday. Some of our happiest memories are from muddy paths, misty hilltops, and the triumphant flask of hot chocolate at the end of a long day out.
Made with Love
Every route on Wilderstill has been explored and written up by our family, or lovingly contributed by fellow adventurers.
Free Google Maps
Each route comes with a free Google My Maps guide you can add to your phone in a single click — no more getting lost.
Real Adventures
From hidden waterfalls and wild lagoons to remote lakes and river gorges, we share routes to places untouched by the crowds.
Why We Built Wilderstill
We created Wilderstill because we wanted outdoor guides that actually work in the field. Too many times we'd arrived at a trailhead with directions that were vague, outdated, or impossible to follow on a phone screen whilst keeping one eye on the path.
The idea was simple: pair every route — whether a walk or a bike ride — with a proper Google My Maps guide that you can add to your own Google Maps account for free. Once it's on your phone, you can see your real-time location on the route — even without an internet connection. No more wrong turns, no more “I think it was left at that tree.”
We also wanted a place where others could share their favourite routes. If you know a brilliant walk or ride that deserves to be on the map, you can submit it here. We review every submission and, once approved, it goes live for everyone to enjoy.

Respect the Wild
The places we share are wild and unspoilt — and we want to keep them that way. We ask everyone who follows our guides to leave no trace, take all litter home, park respectfully without blocking farm gates or narrow lanes, and leave nature exactly as you find it.
For the full details, please read the Respecting Nature section in our Terms of Service.
