How to Find and Use Your Saved Maps
Once you've added a route map to your Google Maps account, here's how to find it on your phone so you can follow the route whilst out and about.

On Android
- Open the Google Maps app on your Android device.
- Tap the You tab at the bottom of the screen (the bookmark icon).
- Scroll down and tap Maps to see all your saved maps.
- Tap the walk map you added — it will open with the route overlaid on Google Maps.
- To hide the route on the main map, tap the map name or View map legend and click close.
- You can now follow the route in real time using your phone's GPS.
On iOS (iPhone & iPad)
- Open the Google Maps app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap the You tab at the bottom of the screen (the bookmark icon).
- Scroll down and tap Maps to view your saved maps.
- Tap the walk map you added — the route will appear overlaid on Google Maps.
- You can now follow the route in real time using your device's GPS.
Helpful Tips
- Download the map area for offline use. Before heading out, download the map area in Google Maps so you can follow the route even without mobile signal.
- Keep your screen on.In Google Maps settings, you can enable “Keep map centred” to make it easier to follow the route whilst walking.
- Battery saver. Using GPS can drain your battery quickly — consider bringing a portable charger.
