How to Create a Google My Map for Your Route
Every route on Wilderstill comes with a free Google My Map that anyone can add to their phone and use as a real-time guide — even without mobile signal. Creating one for your favourite walk or bike ride takes just a few minutes.

Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Open Google My Maps
Go to google.com/maps/d and sign in with your Google account. Click “Create a new map” and give it a name — the walk title works well.
2. Mark the Parking
Drop a marker where people should park. This is the starting point — it helps people find the right spot before they set off. If there are alternative parking options, add those too.
3. Draw the Route
Use the “Add directions” tool or draw a line along the path. The route shows people exactly where to go — their live GPS location will appear on the map relative to this line, so they always know if they're on track.
4. Share and Submit
Make sure your map is set to “Anyone with the link can view”. Then copy the URL from your browser address bar and paste it into the walk submission form. The URL must include coordinates — if it doesn't, pan or zoom the map slightly and copy the URL again.
Why Google My Maps?
Google My Maps are completely free to create and use. Once someone adds your map to their Google Maps app, their real-time GPS location shows on the route — even without mobile signal. It's like having a personal guide in your pocket. No app to download, no account to create, no cost. Just one click and the route is on their phone, ready to go.
