Route and Terrain
This straightforward 4km circular route follows a well-maintained, gravelled path with a gradual incline. While accessible for many, the steady climb requires some stamina. The terrain is generally firm, but rocks near the falls are incredibly slippery when wet. It is suitable for families and dogs on leads, though pushchair users may find the gradient challenging. Sturdy footwear is advised for the final rocky approach to the base of the falls.
Sights & Experiences
The walk winds through a stunning landscape of open fells and ancient woodland, leading to the magnificent 120-foot drop of Rhaeadr Fawr. The water crashes over dark igneous rock into a shallow pool, creating a misty, ethereal atmosphere. Keep an eye out for local wildlife and Iron Age hut circles tucked into the valley slopes. The panoramic views stretching back toward the Menai Strait provide a breath-taking contrast to the rugged mountain scenery.
Parking
Use the two small pay-and-display car parks at the road's end. Spaces are very limited; arrive before 9am or use the free village overflow park.
Recommended Shops
Toilets are available at the start. Visit the nearby village of Abergwyngregyn for charming cafes and local refreshments after your walk.
