Route and Terrain
The shoreline walk is largely flat and straightforward, perfect for families and small children. A full circuit is roughly 4.5 miles and highly recommended; simply follow the well-marked lakeside path. The route includes a short, unique rock tunnel which is easy to navigate. While most of the path is level, the section near the tunnel and the south side can be narrow and rocky underfoot. It is suitable for all fitness levels, though the full loop may challenge those with very limited mobility.
Sights & Experiences
The scenery is spectacular, particularly the reflection of Fleetwith Pike in the still water. On the approach via Newlands Hause, Moss Force waterfall is a must-see roadside marvel. The lake’s edge features shallow, pebbly beaches and gentle streams perfect for children to paddle and skim stones. You’ll wander through the Hassness tunnel and beneath the "Sentinels" (famed Scots Pines). The area is rich in history and natural beauty, with vibrant greenery that feels truly immersive.
