Route and Terrain
The walk involves steep steps down to the waterfall, which can be slippery when wet. The path to the pool is about 300 metres. Be prepared for the climb back up. Not suitable for those with limited mobility or pushchairs. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a lead. The terrain is generally natural and can be uneven.
Sights & Experiences
Queda do Vigário is a spectacular 24-metre waterfall cascading into a beautiful, deep turquoise natural pool. Explore the cave to the left of the waterfall and the ruins on the hill. The area boasts a natural garden with olive trees and flowery bushes. You can swim under the powerful waterfall or enjoy the 'jumping spot' near the steps. There's a romantic natural seating area on the far side of the pool. The pool's depth varies, potentially drying up in summer.
Parking
Free parking is available by the cemetery, offering beautiful valley views. If this is full, additional free parking can be found near the roundabout, which also has outdoor fun equipment. Arrive early, especially during peak season, as spaces are limited.
Recommended Shops
Toilet facilities at the waterfall were closed during our visit. Public toilets are available at Largo Helmano Sousa Costa (a 3-minute drive or 18-minute walk). It's advisable to use facilities before descending the steps to the waterfall.
